Turtle Shell Purses

These purses are lovingly handcrafted with great attention paid to detail and are truly a unique gift for the nature lover or naturalist!  They use either golden or beige tanned deer hide.  The strap is reversed wrapped leather cordage that is about 24" long, long enough to cross the body and settle on the opposite hip.  The pouch and fringe is secured to the shell with artificial sinew.  There are two types of closure, either a hidden magnet or a leather loop.  The small turtle shell is approx 4 - 4 1/2 " long and 4" wide.  The larger is 5" plus and 4 - 4 1/2 " wide.   The fringe varies between 4 1/2" to 7" long.  Some shells are lightly lacquered and some plain.  The lacquer brings out the color of the shell.  The inside leather pouch measures approx. 4" long - 2 1/2" wide.  The smaller one is great for sacred tobacco.  Made from Red-Ear turtle shells, which are not a protected or endangered species.
